SCHOOL
TOURS
Elementary and Middle School Students
Students will see displays of over 70 men and women who have shown
excellence in competition, business, and support of rodeo and the
western lifestyle in Texas. They will get hands-on experience in the
use of rodeo gear. In addition, they will learn about horse-drawn
vehicles in the Sterquell Collection --- wagons for work and play, in
the city and on the farm. Students will be asked to put themselves
in the role of a pioneer in a covered wagon, a cattle drover on the
Chisholm Trail, or a chuck wagon cook during a Spring Roundup.
Ages 5-8 can also participate in our NEW INTER-ACTIVE EXPLORATORIUM
ADVENTURES OF THE COWBOY TRAIL
This exciting hands-on exhibit consists of four learning stations!
Kids learn and experience:
1 -
Packing for the
Trail
- How a cowboy would “pack”
and ready (saddle/bridle) his horse for a long, trail drive.
2 -
Cowboy Alphabet
- The
importance of a brand and why they were used, then they “brand” a
long horn
(a flyer
with information on the back about TCHOF, Historic Stockyards and
City of Fort Worth).
3 - The
ChuckWagon
-
Supplies "packed" on the "cook's wagon" for the trail drive.
Magnets in the form of supplies are used to so the kids can simulate
the supplies and pack for their trip!
4 -
Treasures on the Trail
– Dig in the
sawdust for an arrowhead amongst the dust and rocks! Learn
the history behind the arrowhead.
High School Students
High school students will get a brief introduction to the collections
in the museum then break up into teams for a Scavenger Hunt. They will
use their skills in communication, cooperation and observation to
complete the activity in the time allowed. The Scavenger Hunt is
designed to be both informative and fun.
